All the work you've been putting in, of course it is. Tighten up your wrist a bit, that'll keep the sights from drifting. [Cara had quietly been teaching Mouse weapons training and she was an excellent student.]
[It had taken Cara a few rounds before she'd come up with doubling up on the ear protection. But once she had, Mouse had proven to be a quick learner.] Brilliant. Give it another week or so and you'll be a crack shot.
The question is if it'll translate in the field--not that I hope to ever need to go shooting on a mission. If I'm firing off rounds, something's wrong.
Train long enough and it becomes reflex. You're doing fine. [Cara takes the pistol, setting it on the table.] Better to know what you're doing with it now than be caught off guard later.
And knowing is half the battle? [So she may have watched some old American cartoons back home. It's not like Irish television was much to brag about.] How's the hand to hand coming? That fella from Sherwood giving you a hand with it?
It's not supposed to be easy. But when it's you or them, you need to be ready to defend yourself if something happens out in the field. [Cara's not unsympathetic. But it's her job to train the others. To make sure they're prepared. She offers a faint smile.] I'm not above a little cross-training if you've a mind for it.
[Cara returns the smile and locks away the gun now that they're done with target practice for the day.] I was thinking about brushing up on my computer skills, but let's see what your hand to hand is like first, then we move on?
Fall and hurt your ankle before this op and Nick will likely have my head. Get your shoes changed. [She won't. It's an additional handicap, and it keeps both her balance and form sharp.]
Comments
[She flips the safety on, rolling her shoulders.]
True, true. And knowledge is power, so knowing how to do this makes me stronger.
[A joke, delivered with a hint of smirk.]
[She huffs quietly.]
[She finishes her post-range stretches and grins back at Cara.] I think that might be a good idea.
[Two-inch heels, but heels nonetheless.]
