A lot of people employ it too casually, and not just as hyperbole. Someone catches their eye, and suddenly they're in love without ever knowing the other person, and...that's not really love, is it? It's infatuation.
Oh? I think infatuation is still love, no matter how silly it is. It still puts butterflies in your stomach, so even if it's willy-nilly, it's still love and it's still real.
[Well, of course that much is obvious. Toto, on the bright side, has decided to stay at home today, presumably curled up on the foot of her bed. Dorothy smiles at the feline, offering a hand to him as she crouches down.]
I've seen different sorts of magic before, but nothing quite as magical as the word "love" and what it brings. It's what makes a house a home. Did you know that?
so much <3 for dorothy. I should hit you with one of my Wicked muses.
[He sniffs the hand--definitely dog, but he's not currently here. That's a relief; London's really not in the mood for being chased around right now. He nudges Dorothy's hand with the top of his head.
Love makes a house a home? Huh. He'd have guessed it was permanence, or tradition, or even just time. But magic is interesting--magic is always interesting.]
[She's well aware how she must smell like her little dog, but the kitty seems okay with that. She gives a sort of hum of amusement, petting his head gently and scratching behind his ears. Surely, he must like that.]
It does. [She ducks her head in a nod, pressing her knees into the dirt as she gets a touch more comfortable. After all, the kitty wouldn't follow her around like Toto tends to, would he?] It makes everything a little bit brighter, too. I know a few other magic words, but I think love is the most important.
[Well, maybe not okay, exactly. But he can tolerate it for now, as long as it doesn't get too overwhelming.
For the record: Yes. London quite likes being scratched like that. And she seems to be very good at it! His opinion of her goes up a few notches. He toys with changing so he can talk with her, see what she knows about magic...but maybe in a minute or two. Once he's done here.
[That makes her laugh softly. Surely if the cowardly lion liked it, then it must be just as nice for this cat, and when she catches the sound of his purring, she can't help the grin on her face.]
You know, I haven't seen a cat like you around the farm before. [She says it conversationally, of course, continuing the little scratches behind his ears before petting down his spine and then lifting her hand to scratch beneath his chin.] Are you lost or just new?
[Well, it doesn't look silly, but it looks unpracticed. He's obviously not used to the motion.] Love changes things. It makes simple things important and big things seem manageable. Heartbreak doesn't last forever. [She would know. She left her closest friends behind in Oz.]
[He's more accustomed to shaking hands, that's for sure.] Oh, I think heartbreak can last for a good long while, but you're right. Sooner or later something comes along to distract. And, yeah, love is very transformative.
[That gets a little laugh out of her, because that is a big word that she's positive she knows the definition of. It's simple enough, after all, for a girl with too much schooling to understand.] It's important to everyone, sir.
Especially to me. [And then she gives another curtsy.] I'm Dorothy.

Though London is being a little bit wary--he can sense dog on her.]

Oh hell, he's purring, isn't he?]

It's a powerful one. Magical might be more personal point of view? Not that it isn't. Unless .. broken heart or something.
[He thinks that's a word. If not, it is now.]
Especially to me. [And then she gives another curtsy.] I'm Dorothy.
[This time he manages a credible bow in return.] Clark. Nice to meet you.
Is it your favorite?
