Oh! Fy geneth felys, mae mor dda i'ch cyfarfod o'r diwedd! [Cadogan might not have been raised overly demonstrative, but Sophie will absolutely be getting arms offered for a pleased little hug from the woman who raised him.] Let's have a look at you, then, cariad.
[Oh, gosh. Too fast and too musical and too--! She manages to return the hug through her pleased surprise. Margarite Berthier had not been a demonstrative mother. In fact, one might call her "hands off." She liked to dress up the twins in matching mother/daughter outfits and parade them like prized poodles, golden princesses to set off the golden empress. Red-faced, red-haired, tomboy Sophie didn't fit that mold. She was lucky to get so much as a cursory glance. It's...not an unpleasant experience, receiving affection from a respected, loved by proxy mother figure.
Cariad at least she understands.] Welcome home? Oh, do say you'll stay! He's going to be so happy!
[She'll settle into English as best as she can, surely. It's just going to take a while. Just like it's going to take a while not to pat this lovely young lady on the cheek and the shoulder and the arm, as if that will help solidify this connection to her son's life.]
Oi, and we'll see, fy geneth, we'll see. There's a world of to do before anyone decides such a thing.
It's Leigh, ma'am. Leigh Pekkanen. ['Ma'am' because she doesn't precisely recognise the voice, so it could be any one of the old ladies she's kept trying to tell apart. Some things remain confusing, like similar physical features and elderly memories not being what they used to be.]
[It takes a moment to shift through the myriad of names and settle on the right bright smile.] Ah, Miss Leigh. I've heard so much about you, oen bach. [She'll offer a hand rather than a hug, but only barely.] An' I'm Mrs Thomas, dear.
What as in Cadogan's mother that no one told her was here and--
Well, it's a good thing except for the lack of Christmas present. She'll throw her arms round her anyway to make up for it.] It's so nice t'meet you, Mrs Thomas! When did- I mean- It's nice to have you here.
O, bendithiwch fy henaid--! [Unexpected--but certainly not unwelcome. She's not so old as to have forgotten how to cwtch up a sweet child in her arms.] And quite a pleasure to meet you as well, geneth annwyl. My eyes, but you're a sight taller than the boy told me.
[It's absolutely lovely to know that Mrs Thomas is just as kind as Mr Cadogan said she was. Absolutely brilliant to have her here and the place just that bit brighter for her presence (and her son's state of mind too, no doubt).]
's a growth spurt. I'm having lots'a those right now. [She pulls back a bit without letting go.] He knows you're here, right? He's gotta.
Y'll be right tall as an oak before our very eyes, cariad. [Mothers can tell, after all.] He does know, dearheart, yes. Gained nearly a stone since I've been here, even.
Silas Taccetta, King of Diamonds. Welcome to our home, Mr. Thomas, and hope you'll enjoy your stay.
[He's grinning as he offers his hand to her. He's the first to receive her, intercepting before Cadogan can see her and ruin the surprise. That just wouldn't do.]
[Oh, well if that doesn't get her in a flutter, nothing will. It takes a moment to decide what to do with herself, taking his hand and dipping a light sort of curtsy.] How can I not, sir?
[With a squeeze to her hand, Silas ushers her into a side room and then into a chair.]
There's only so much formality a man can take in one day, love. Please, just sit and take a moment. There are some things we'll need to go over, of course, but in the meantime I'd like for you to just unwind, hmm?
[in the deck, there is always tea. Especially when it's most needed, which is why it is now materializing at elbows and being served property, instruction taken with gentle expressions so that it's Known for the future how the new lady takes her tea.]
I just want you to relax for a few and catch your breath. Never mind the to do.
I had to because a) MRS. THOMAS :D and b) OPHELIA'S FACE :O xp
"Rachel Caustello, madam. Ten of Diamonds." And the woman-- just faintly familiar, Rachel thought, though she couldn't quite place why-- must be new or not of the Suit if she'd not known that off the bat, so she'll smile slightly and offer a hand to shake.
I choose to believe Roisin and Ophelia look alike for maximum Ten-fran bonding. :<
Of course her hand goes out instantly to shake, although it clearly takes a moment to process the last bit. She'd gotten used to the army ranks, but this is just a little strange to become accustomed to.
"Roisin Thomas, ma'am." She's clearly got a few years on this woman, but Ten's a good deal higher than Two, isn't it? "Two, I suppose, of Diamonds. Very much a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise, I'm sure," she says, before pausing just a moment in contemplation. Thomas, she's certain, is a common enough name, but the woman just looks enough like a face she knows that she can't help but try to place it, "Any relation to Cadogan Thomas, perhaps?"
Well, that's got her perking right up all over again.
"Aye, ma'am, and I'd be his mother." Quite proud of it, clearly, as she chuckles another soft chuckle. "I do hope you know him for being a good sort of man, mm, and not a nuisance?"
She'll manage a faint smile at the woman's pride, "Hardly a nuisance, I'd think." Which really is such a step up from just a year ago, but then, she's a very different person from the woman she was then.
"From what I'm told, he's been quite the aid to our Lady Ace in recent months." And that's helped quite a bit, too.
"Bendithiwch fy calon, ma'am, an' is that the one up top?" Her boy, helping out with the folk running this place? Well, she'll have to catch him for lying as long as he had about living in London, but still.
"One of them, yes," she'll answer, and there's a deeper part of her heart that twinges just slightly at Roisin's pleasure-- she wonders if her mother would be so overjoyed.
"There are four at the 'top' of the Suit, if you will. Their Majesties King Silas and Queen Säde, and then Lady Atalanta for Jack and Lady Avery for Ace-- she's the one your son's helped so much."
Comments
[And that's her extent of only mildly mispronounced Welsh. Please, oh, please, don't start nattering away in the language.]
[ooc: According to Google, that should mean, "My name is Sophie, Mrs. Thomas." Hope she didn't just say she's a frog!]
Cariad at least she understands.] Welcome home? Oh, do say you'll stay! He's going to be so happy!

[Tea. Tea and tiny food is the answer.]
To go over?

Isn't that a nice how-do-you-do.
