There's the hint of a smile on his face as he sets to opening it. "It's not going to explode, right?" His grin widens as he glances back over his shoulder at his dad.
I thought so. :D Tony doesn't know he's asexual. He just knows how he was back then.
"Yeah, I'm sure she wouldn't be happy about me giving these to you either." He shrugs. "I just...you know, what you to be safe and all that. And um...you've been through Biology class but if you have any...questions or whatever..." Tony doesn't really know what to do but he never got the talk from his parents and he wants to make sure his boy is good.
"I think she'll just appreciate that you're encouraging, uh, y'know safety and all that." He offers an awkward smile, because as weird as it was to actually discuss it, at least he knew they could. "I got a pretty good understanding on how that all, um, works and... Yeah. If I have questions, I'll remember to ask."
ooc: I don't think Jamie realizes either :) so they can be together in that. Though I can totally see a convo of 'dad, is it weird that I'm 16and... Kindahavenorealintentionofhavingsex!?!?'
"Sure. Then she'd hit me upside the head when you'd gone." He chuckles. Tony rubs the back of his neck and walks around the lab. "Yeah. That's good. I know...we don't really get into like...your personal life and all that but um...do you have...anyone? Dating?"
[ oooc; Hehe. That'd be the best conversation ever. ]
"That's kinda her job, though, isn't it? Being a mum and all." There's a half-shrug, his own chuckle. "We never really talk about it." Not that Jamie ever instigated the conversation either. "Uh, no? I... No. Hadn't really, y'know, thought about it."
ooc: Hehe, and so very awkward! Poor Jamie'll think there's something wrong with him for having no sexual interest in, well, anyone.
"Yeah. It just leaves me with a lot of head injuries. She's a lot stronger than me." He grins a little before nodding. "Alright... that's...okay. You're still young and maturing in all ways so...yeah. Just..." He nods. This is so awkward. "I just want you to know that it's not the forties like your mother way want you to think. Sex is...good. A good thing and if you're ready for it then you should do it..." He's playing with a wrench currently.
[ ooc; Tony will do his best not to make him feel that way! ]
"Ita easy to forget that sometimes." He would know. "I... Yeah. People keep telling me. I just... No rush, right?" With his back to Tony, he fiddles with the box, a loose screw, the roll of electrical tape, anything to act as a distraction. "I haven't... Met anyone, I guess? Or at least anyone I wanna... Have sex with."
"Only because you're just as strong." He explains. Trust the Stark boys to have easier conversations while fiddling with bites an pieces around a lab. Somehow it makes it easier for Tony to focus, knowing that James is just right there and that he's his son. "Yeah. That's...perfectly alright. No rush. Do it when you're ready. You know, whoever you want it to be with and all that." He nods. "I just...don't want someone taking advantage of you, Jamie. You're a good kid, smart...and that last thing I want is you to have a bad first time..." Tony sits the wrench down.
[ ooc; He tries! It helps that he has an awesome son. ]
He snorts a laugh at that, nodding in agreement. Dropping down onto a wheeley chair, Jamie skids across the floor, stopping against a desk and watching his dad thoughtfully. "Is it weird? That I haven't found anyone, I mean." Because most guys, and even a few of the girls, he knew had lost the V card. And he'd heard all the stories of Tony Stark. Regularly. He ducks his head, suddenly embarrassed. "I just... I've found people attractive. But I've never... I've never wanted to."
Tony leans against the table he's at and he looks at Jamie. For a moment he looks confused. Most teenage boys were all ready to do it. Most, Tony remands himself. His boy isn't most. "You've never wanted to?" He nods. "It's...not uncommon for boys your age to not want to." Tony's totally BSing right now. He just doesn't want Jamie to feel more abnormal.
"I... No, never." He doesn't look up, eyes firmly on the floor as a blush covers his cheeks. "I've been told it's weird." And he'd tried to want to. But he just... Couldn't. Sex was just not something he wanted.
A million things run through Tony's head at once. The one thing that keeps coming back to him is that James is his son and no matter what he loves him. "That's...okay. Jamie, nothing is wrong with that. I mean...lets be honest your mother was like nearing ninety before she finally did it." He's kidding about that last bit but he's just trying to make him feel better.
Jamie wrinkled his nose dramatically. "That... was not something I needed to hear about mum." He was surprised by how easy it had been to tell his dad. Well, easy was a bad word, but it hadn't been as horrible as he'd expected it to be. And Tony's reaction had made it easier, even if Jamie was aware that it wasn't normal for 16 year olds to be less than interested in sleeping with every girl they came across. "Thanks."
"Yeah but it's a good point." Tony ruffles his hair. "Don't spend time trying to be 'normal', Jamie." He says softly in his dad voice. "You don't need to be. Everything from your super strength to your sexuality...you're perfect the way you are, kiddo."
Scowling, he bats Tony's hands away from his hair, brows furrowed in a show of mock frustration. "Keep it between you and mum." There's a pause. "I don't want to be normal. I just don't want my sexuality to be the defined of ht I'm different." He sighs, shrugging and pulling a face. "I just hope you and mum aren't the only people who think that."
He lets his hand be batted away and he chuckles a little. "Look, Jamie...if your mother and I's relationship has shown anything then it's shown that there is someone for everyone out there." It's really the truth and she had to come seventy years into the future. "You'll find someone to share yourself with. We all do."
"I just worry, y'know? That me not wanting what most people want. Or hell, even my strength or my intelligence. I worry that it'll turn people off." He shrugs again, suddenly worried that he sounded absolutely ridiculous, and a frown crossed his face.
He nods. "It will with some people. I won't lie but you'll find someone, Jamie. And they'll like you for your smarts and strength and your smile and all that. You just need to give it time." He smiles a little.
Jamie offers a smile then, because there was a right thing to say, and his dad had just nailed it. He'd always been aware that there were some people that would be turned away by all the things he'd listed. But he needed the reaffirmation that someone would be accepting. "Thanks dad."
It's taken Tony a long time to become a decent father and most the time he doesn't even think he's doing that good a job. He still tries his best and when moments like this happen he can't help but feel good about it all. "Any time, son."
